About

Hi! I’m Emily! I used to be a chemist, and then a data engineer. When I was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, I realized I couldn’t effectively support my body by working in an office environment, so I made the switch to fitness coaching and never looked back. My fitness background includes many years of experience in yoga, Argentine tango, ballet, karate, capoeira, bicycling, running, gymastics, and being a silly person. I have been drawn to flexibility since I was a child, but could never get access to high-quality training. I attempted many things I found online, took many classes and workshops, did lots and lots of yoga, tried the “splits in 30 days” programs, and got lots of injuries. I learned what works for my body and what doesn’t. Over time I developed the detail-oriented approach I needed to make sustainable progress, and on that journey I noticed that other people need it, too.

Approach

The Mobility Laboratory is a fun reference to my extensive background in laboratory sciences. I specialize in teaching beginner to intermediate adult flexibility students, especially those with hypermobile bodies. My coaching is methodical, systematic, progressive, individualized, and inclusive. With my focus on the details of proper form and respectful targeted feedback, I help students understand how flexibility training is supposed to feel in their own bodies. Most of the time, that means addressing an imbalance or weakness you didn’t know about so that you can make sustainable progress. Over time you’ll find increased mobility, stability, safety, and end range strength. You may be surprised by how many of your activities in life are improved with a consistent flexibility practice.
